Matte or Falling Flat, Is the Matte Base all its Cracked Up To Be?

When Makeup Revolution decided to bring back their Matte Base foundation I ordered it straight away, I really like Revolution products and wanted to try something less oily for my skin as I'd been using the Revolution Pro Foundation Drops (which I love) but my skin has been less than happy recently so thought trying matte may be worth a go. I also ordered the matching concealer and powder to give the range a full test.

I promise I'll get better at Flatlays, some day.

Having used the foundation drops a lot over the last few months it definitely took some getting used to with the consistency of the matte foundation being really different. I apply it with my usual Nanshy foundation brush and then dab the areas I need to with a beauty blender - mostly around my eyes.

I love my Nanshy brushes, they're so soft and lovely for application.
The foundation does give a really nice matte finish, you do have to use more product than I'd like to but it looks good and can be built up and once the matching powder is used with it, its pretty flawless. I don't think the shade I got is quite right for my skin in the winter though.

The concealer is an interesting one, I'm used to using the conceal and define which I swear by, but this concealer takes me back to the days of using Collection stick concealers before I found liquid - the concealer though is really not to my taste. It sinks into my undereye lines more than their other products and is just not the best for me or my skin type - though it does stay on better on my nose than others I've tried!

I really like the powder, its compact and perfect for me - my nose gets so shiny and this really stops that for a great deal of the day and with re-application I'm well away still. I've actually used the powder and my normal concealer together for a less full coverage and it works really well.

Overall I'm really pleased with the products, I feel confident when wearing them that my foundation isn't going to budge and finding a foundation that stays on my nose throughout the day is a bit of a miracle for me. I'll definitely be re-buying and at the price of Makeup Revolution products it doesn't break the bank and I have more money for eye pallettes. (My makeup drawers really need an overhaul!)

All items can be bought from Superdrug or Revolution Beauty website. I purchased all items in this post.
